Company Profile
Vermont Country Store
Company History
In 1945, with the mailing of a catalog to folks on their Christmas card list, Vrest and Ellen Orton began a decades-long family tradition of supplying practical, hard-to-find products to customers. As their friends and neighbors responded enthusiastically to the catalog, the couple opened The Vermont Country Store one year later in Weston, Vermont to complement the fledgling mail order business.
Today, the family storekeeping tradition continues, as Lyman Orton and his sons, Cabot, Gardner, and Eliot, take pride in operating two retail locations in Weston and Rockingham, as well as an operations center in North Clarendon and a corporate office in Manchester. Now employing approximately 500 employees, The Vermont Country Store has maintained its national catalog presence and retail experience, offering a modern online shopping experience, as well.
